Everybody's seen the CD in the microwave...

This CD-ROM (Computer Shopper) got one second on 'Number Nine' in a 650 watt microwave.Closeup of the damage

But, have you seen

The CD-ROM Drive in the microwave?

Yes, I got bored, and microwaved a CD-ROM drive...
I had to remove the metal casing for obvious reasons, leaving just the controller circuitboard and the draw/laser assy to cook. [CD-ROM drive in pieces]
Very little happened to the draw and laser assy., but the SMT's didn't like being nuked. What is odd, is that the 'read' LED lit up when the magnatron kicked in. This pic shows the damage highlighted (click thumbnail [207K]) [nuked PCB]
I have some video of the ceremony, screenshots of which will be appearing here when I can fix the frame grabber.

And if that's not enough,

The CD-ROM in the toaster

One CD-ROM, and a 1250 watt toaster. [CD-ROM and toaster]
20 seconds into the cook time... [during the ceremony]
After about 45 secs the thing started smoking so I turned it off. The corner has melted over a bit close to the element. [CD-ROM after 45 seconds]
No other damage occured... [CD-ROM and toaster]
